Experimenter Track
The Experimenter Track is designed to help researchers learn to use GENI for experimentation. For newcomers to GENI, the track includes a number of introductory talks and hands-on tutorials. Attendees with some experience with GENI will find the track includes tutorials on specialized GENI resources and tools. In addition, this GEC we are introducing a "coding sprint" for developers and experimenters. There is no restriction on who can attend any tutorial, however we make some recommendations for newcomers.
Hands-on participation in tutorials is limited by available resources. Attendees who are interested in observing, or who sign up after all hands-on spaces are taken, are encouraged to participate on an "audit" basis.
Experimenters unfamiliar with GENI are strongly encouraged to attend the full morning of introductory tutorial sessions on Wednesday, November 2, followed by their choice of additional tutorial and introductory information on Wednesday afternoon.
- GENI Concepts and Resources provides an overview of core GENI concepts and terminology and describes the computing and networking resources, tools and support resources currently available to experimenters;
- Introduction to GENI using Flack and the Instrumentation Portal is a hands-on tutorial where attendees will set up, instrument and run a simple experiment using geographically distributed computers interconnected by VLANs;
- Packet-level Measurement Systems for GENI provides an introduction to the GIMS packet capture systems, their implementation in the ProtoGENI framework and a hands-on introduction to their use in GENI experiments.
- PrimoGENI: Supporting Hybrid Simulation, Emulation, and Live Network Experiments is a hands-on tutorial that will show users how to design and run network experiments using PrimoGENI, and demonstrate PrimoGENI's capabilities through several network experiment case studies.
- The DiCloud tutorial will demonstrate how to install and use DiCloud software to meter usage for Amazon cloud resources. The tutorial will show experimenters how they can incorporate their own Amazon resources in GENI slices. We will also show how to use DiCloud in conjunction with Orca experiments.
- New Projects: Experimenter Support and Training is an opportunity for experimenters to learn about the plans of newly started GENI projects in the areas of experiment support and training.
Experimenters with some knowledge of GENI and newcomers who have participated in the introductory tutorials described above will be prepared to benefit from additional tutorials on Thursday and Friday.
- NetServ is a programmable router architecture for dynamically deploying in-network services. This hands-on tutorial will present the NetServ architecture, and participants will develop a simple NetServ application module.
- Experimental topologies on the GENI Mesoscale network with omni will give experimenters hands-on experience with specifying the computing and network resources required to construct an experimental topology in the GENI mesoscale deployment. Attendees will use omni, a command-line experimenter tool for accessing GENI resources.
- The coding sprint gives experimenters and developers a chance to work side-by-side to get experiments started or work through problems together. This session is listed under Software track.
Each tutorial includes a detailed description linked to from the GENI agenda page, identifying any preparatory work. Attendees should come prepared to engage in hands-on use of GENI. Hands-on participation in many tutorials require laptops with VirtualBox software (http://www.virtualbox.org/); attendees should have this software installed before the tutorials.

Campus Track
The Campus Track is focused on deployment and operations of GENI infrastructure. The track will include meetings to help new operators understand what GENI is and its concept of operations. Technology tutorials will be presented that are oriented towards an operations perspective. The track will also include sessions where campuses can agree upon GENI operations processes and procedures. The target participant is a campus or infrastructure operator hosting a GENI component or components.

Software Development Track
The Software Development track is focused on development of software to support GENI experimentation within the next 12-18 months. These sessions will include project highlights and overview reports, engineering meetings, and round tables for feedback and airing of concerns. The over-arching goal of this track is to focus on efforts that can support nation-wide networking research in the next year. The emphasis will be on key decisions blocking development progress. The target participant is a software developer or system integrator helping to build/integrate GENI.
