investigate VLAN connectivity to CMU

Description
Look into how best to establish VLAN connectivity from CMU Lab (128.2.222.223) to Internet2. Their provider is PSC at 3ROX. There is an existing 1Gbps Internet access circuit with fairly low utilization. Perhaps it would support multiple VLANs. Dave Andersen, CMU Lab PI, has been in touch with Wendy Huntoon on this topic some time ago.

Aaron, I'm starting to go over all the tickets again to update them - is there more information on actual proper I2 connectivity? What is the status of this ticket? Some of the later tickets depend on this - is the plan still to do I2 or is GRE/VPN tunneling solution sufficient?

Pat-
This is on Mike's & Heidi's to-do list, although not at the top. Yes, we do want native I2 connectivity, if practical, as it will allow CMU resources unaffected by tunneling artifacts to be included in GENI slices. I'll leave to Heidi or Mike to comment on any updates to the status. If you have some cycles to dig into this, it might move faster and we are happy to help.

Closing the Spiral 1 milestone MilestoneDate(CMU Lab: Get CMU ProtoGENI node on I2 VLAN)? as incomplete but keeping the ticket open. This ticket will continue to be on the GPO's to do list.

CMU is currently using GRE tunnels to connect to ProtoGENI in Utah (see ticket #3, and CMU docs referenced from web pages). This ticket anticipates that CMU will use a combination of tunneling solutions such as what's described in ticket #3 and "regular" ethernet VLANS (for any resources that could potentially be reached with a layer 2 VLAN, such as the on-campus testbed resources. The ProtoGENI nodes going into the I2 backbone are examples of a resource that might be useful for the ethernet VLAN connection. Now that we have updated plans for VLANs with I2 as part of ProtoGENI/SPP installation plan, we should update CMU connectivity plans and document on wiki.
