Scope

The scope of work on this project is to extend your outdoor, wide-area sensor/actuator network testbed to support slivering and utilize a GENI candidate control framework (ORCA/Shirako). This includes: 1) Virtualization of your sensor/actuator system. 2) Integration with GENI-compliant Software Artifacts, including the use of Shirako software (part of the ORCA project) as the base for the control framework. 3) Making your testbed publicly available, starting in year 1, and integrate it into an environment of federated testbeds by the end of year 2. 4) Providing documentation for testbed users, administrators, and developers.

ViSE: 1a Assembly of three x86 sensor nodes

Spiral 1 Connectivity

Please include links to wiki pages about details of infrastrcture that the project is using (if any). Examples include IP addresses, hostnames, URLs, DNS servers, local site network maps, VLAN IDs (if permanent VLANs are used), pointers to public keys. May also include ticket links for pending or known connectivity issues. Many projects will have a full tree of wiki pages here.

Location of equipment: For Spiral 1, work will be done in a lab at UMassAmherst and a three field locations in Massachusetts.

Layer 3 Connectivity: IP access will be through UMass Amherst's campus network, using their public IP addresses.

Layer 2 Connectivity: There is currently no usable layer2 connection to the UMass Amherst lab available for GENI (this is the same lab that the DOME project uses0. The project is investigating the possibility of installing local fiber that could enable a connection to NLR through an appropriate regional network. If installed, this fiber would support both the DOME and ViSE projects. Field locations might be accessed via IP tunnels or layer2 VLANs--investigation is ongoing.
