Summary
Agenda
1) GEMINI Goals
9:00am
Spiral 5:
Introduce and deploy new architecture;
provide useful tools at each GEC
v1.1/GEC15:
Introduce new architecture with passive measurements;
follow basic test/tutorial/experiment workflow
v2beta/GEC16:
Extend new architecture to include basic active measurements;
extend analysis, presentation, storage and archiving of measurements
v2.0/GEC17:
Add full set of active measurements;
follow infrastructure measurement workflow, including sharing data with others;
include ability to retrieve data from storage for further analysis and presentation
Spiral 6:
Add functions, features and refinements, based on user feedback;
integrate with other GENI tools (e.g., GENI CH Portal)
Comments or changes?
2) Basic Test/Tutorial/Experiment Workflow
9:15am
See link
Sets requirements for use of tools by experimenter to instrument and measure their slice.
Should be used as basis for GEC15 tutorial.
Comments or changes?
3) GEMINI Definition for v1.1/GEC15
9:30am
See link
Comments or changes?
4) Target Aggregates for v1.1/GEC15 and Spiral 5
10:00am
v1.1/GEC15:
Target either ProtoGENI clusters and InstaGENI racks
However, since InstaGENI racks are still unstable, GEC15 tutorial will target only ProtoGENI clusters, preferably Univ Kentucky.
v2beta/GEC16:
Target either ProtoGENI clusters and InstaGENI racks
GEC16 tutorial should target InstaGENI racks, preferably slices spanning multiple racks
v2.0/GEC17:
Add target of ExoGENI racks, for slices spanning multiple racks However, a slice does NOT need to span both
5) Reference Experiments for v1.1/GEC15 and Spiral 5
10:15am
6) Introducing New GEMINI Architecture for v1.1/GEC15
10:45am
7) GEMINI Portal for v1.1/GEC15
11:15am
8) GEMINI Integration Plan for v1.1/GEC15
11:30am
Lunch
12noon
9) Extending New GEMINI Architecture for Spiral 5
1:00pm
10) Extending GEMINI Measurement Analysis, Presentation, Storage and Archive Functions in Spiral 5
1:30pm
11) Extending GEMINI Portal Service in Spiral 5
2:00pm
12) Review of GEMINI Plans and Open Issues for Spiral 5
2:30pm
Adjourn
3:30pm
2.1) Co-exist with Clearwire
1:35pm
Harry Mussman (GPO) and Ray Raychaudhuri (WINLAB)
- Review of current licensing and leasing arrangements
- Current GENI WiMAX sites, licenses and base stations
- spreadsheet
- Proposed leases by Clearwire, some limited to 1 year, up to $4k to renew, with "indemnification"
- Kevin Wanuga of Drexel reports: When Drexel general counsel was negotiating with Clearwire, Clearwire was willing to drop indemnification clause, and some other difficult language, before agreement was finalized and signed; Drexel also has an experimental license.

- Status of discussions with Clearwire
- Harry reports: waiting to organize another call with Paul McCarthy at Clearwire.

- Status of discussions with the FCC
- Harry reports: GENI operates using experimental license as FCC intended; waiting for contact to review GENI documents.
- Possible approach, as an alternative to an agreement that leases Clearwire spectrum to GENI sites:
- Operate under an experimental license from the FCC
- Agreement between Rutgers WINLAB and Clearwire, on enhanced cooperation
- Responsive local contact, at each site
- Centralized management DB at Rutgers WINLAB
- Ability to quickly turn off site transmitter, if interference suspected
- Operate under an experimental license from the FCC
