Description

Demo Title:

C3STEM: Engaging Students in Collaborative STEM Education using Cloud-based Modeling and Simulation

One-sentence layman's description:

This demo shows a cloud-based modeling and simulation environment that enables K-12 learning and problem solving through collaboration using a gigabit network to support high-fidelity simulations of traffic.

Who should see this demo?

Attendees interested in ubiquitous collaborative STEM learning and problem-solving applications using high-speed networks should see this demo.

Demo description paragraph(s):

We will demo the Collaborative, Community-situated, and Challenge-based STEM learning environment (C3STEM), which has engaged high school students in collaborative learning and problem-solving activities in multiple schools in middle Tennessee. C3STEM provides a cloud-based environment that leverages high-speed networks to promote collaborative problem-solving skills and computational thinking. Students engage in modeling and simulation activities focused on real-world challenge problems in the traffic domain, which reify a variety of STEM concepts in physics, math, and computer science. We will demonstrate a series of C3STEM learning modules, progressing from simple visual programming for modeling the physics of car movement and traffic intersections to high-fidelity simulations of traffic on real-world street maps for collaborative optimization of traffic flow.

List of equipment that will need AC connections (e.g. laptop, switch, monitor): Just put in the number of connections needed if your demo description already lists equipment.

2 AC connections will be needed for laptops.

Total number of wired network connections (sum standard IP and VLAN connections):

2 wired network connections for laptops

Number of wired layer 2 VLANs (if any): Specify VLAN number, if known, approximate bandwidth, and whether tagged or untagged.

None

Number of wireless network connections (include required bandwidth if significant):

1 wireless network connection for tablet

Number of static addresses needed (if any):

None

Monitor (y/n, specify VGA or DVI): Specify resolution only if your software has resolution restrictions.

No

Number of posters (max size poster boards are 30" x 40"):

1

Special requests: Include any specific network connectivity needs (e.g. VLANs to a particular GENI location, projects you'd like to be near, etc.)

None
