#52 fixed Failing to create a four-node InstaGENI sliver during GEMINI testing somebody johren@bbn.com
Description

I have been trying to create a four-node slice for testing GEMINI. This slice contains three VMs in a mesh network configuration and one stand-alone VM. When I try to create this sliver, I am getting at least one node failure most of the time. This morning I have tried at least 12 slivers so far and all but two have had at least one node fail. The sliverstatus output does not give any geni_error indication as to what caused the failure.

{'geni_error': ,

'geni_status': 'failed', 'geni_urn': 'urn:publicid:IDN+utah.geniracks.net+sliver+10467', 'pg_manifest': {'attributes': {'client_id': 'PCC',

...

I have left slice johGEM1209261119 up in case someone wants to take a look at one of the failures.

#51 fixed Cannot log in to some InstaGENI nodes somebody johren@bbn.com
Description

I have created several slivers in the last couple of weeks where one or more of the four nodes (VMs) have not had their SSH keys configured correctly. IOW, I get a password prompt when attempting to log in to the node. I ran into the same problem today and left the slice up in case someone wants to troubleshoot. The slice is johGEM1209261101. I can only log into node PCA (pc1.utah.geniracks.net -p 31035). The rest present the password prompt.

Luisa has reproduced the same problem in two of her slices today.

#49 fixed Capture documentation and the process required to make a custom VM images available in InstaGENI somebody lnevers@bbn.com
Description

This ticket will capture the process followed to build a VM custom image for OpenVZ containers. Using the existing instructions, the following steps will be completed:

  1. Create an Experiment with an existing image
  2. Login to node and customize
  3. Create a new Image Descriptor and snapshot
  4. Wait for the email saying the image creation is done
  5. Verify new customized image
  6. Make image available

Background: The following email exchange kicked off this effort:

2) We have support for making disk images of VMs (OpenVZ containers) - from a user perspective, it looks basically the same as making an image from a bare metal node. We have our first guinea pigHHHHHHHHHH user trying it out right now.

If you need a 2nd guinea pig... just point me to the instructions.

There are no instructions it looks the same as doing it for a bare metal node.

So the existing instructions now needd to be modified to remove all instances on "physical nodes"? Sounds good, I will use the existing instructions.
