Sign Me Up for the GENI Portal

Welcome to GENI!
This page tells you how to Sign Up for the GENI Portal. The portal is a web interface to the GENI Clearinghouse that manages GENI users, projects and slices. This account will provide you with the right credentials for using the GENI Testbed.
Login to GENI

Login to the Portal

The GENI Portal leverages InCommon to provide single sign-on authentication. If you are affiliated with a US college or University that is a member of the InCommon federation, simply login using your usual username and password to activate your GENI account. If you are not affiliated with an InCommon federated institution, you may request a GENI-only login.

Check if you can use your Institution's account

If you want to check whether your can use your Institution's account to login:
  • Go to the GENI Portal and press the Use GENI button.
  • Start typing your institution's name and if it is a member it will just show up, select it and press Continue. If it does not, read on to the next session.
  • This will transfer you to the familiar Login Page of your institution. If you get an error after you login please send us [ an email] with the error you got.
  • If you successfully login, then follow the instructions in the next page, press Activate.
    Congratulations, now you have a GENI Account

If your Institution is not a member of InCommon

If you were not able to login to the GENI Portal through your Institution, you can request a GENI only account. In order to do that, please send us an email using the template that follows in this address. Fill in your personal information.

In the email you have to include a hashed password that you can get using the slappasswd. slappasswd is a command line tool that is available on Macs and probably most Linux distributions. It will generate a string that begins with "{SSHA}". We need that entire string. If you are having problems using this utility please email us.

Make sure that you send us this email from the email account that you want to be associated with your GENI account.

Once you receive an email verifying that we have created an account for you, you can follow the above instructions but as your Institution use GENI Project Office.

I was not able to login to the GENI Portal through my institution and I would like to get a GENI account.

These are my personal information:

  * Username (max 8 chars, we can make this up if you don't have a preference)
  * First name
  * Last name
  * E-mail address
  * Phone number
  * Hashed password

Now what?

Congratulations! You have your GENI credentials and you're good to go.

If you're not sure how to proceed from here, you may want to try one of these GENI tools:

Flack is a graphical user interface for finding and requesting GENI resources. It runs in your browser.

Omni is a command-line tool for finding and requesting GENI resources. You download omni and run it on your computer.

Once you are familiar with one of these basic tools, some sample experiments that you may want to try or modify are available at GENIExperimenterWelcome.
