OFNLR Project Status Report
Period: 2010-Q2
This project will deploy and operate OpenFlow-enabled HP Procurve 6600 switches at 5 NLR PoPs and interconnect NLR’s FrameNet network to the GENI OpenFlow-enabled backbone, permitting members and non-members of NLR to connect to GENI OpenFlow services.
I. Major accomplishments
A. Milestones achieved
Currently in process:
- OFNLR: S2.b Lab test OpenFlow 1.0 capable switch and controller
- OFNLR: S2.c Deploy OpenFlow switches to five POPs
- OFNLR: S2.d Engineer and test regional network connections
B. Deliverables made
- Equipment installation planning completed
- Switches and supporting components acquired
- Switches deployed to 4 of the 5 PoP locations
II. Description of work performed during last quarter
A. Activities and findings
- Equipment planning and installation
- Verified availability of rack space, AC power, and cooling in each of the designated PoPs
- Generated optical engineering design and verified available optical wavelength and slotting capacity throughout the Layer 1 WaveNet path
- Confirmed availability of Layer 2 FrameNet ports and optics and out-of-band ports
- Generated installation and cross-connect orders
- Switches installed in Atlanta, Sunnyvale, Seattle, and Chicago
- Switch and system components ordering
- Selected HP 6600-24G-4XG switch
- Used the information from the “Equipment planning and installation” activity to generate component purchase list
- Placed orders for all equipment
- Planning for GEC8 demo
