==  I. Major accomplishments ==
=== A. Milestones status ===

__MAXREGIONAL:S4.a Continue to support !OpenFlow in MAX with a GENI aggregate that can connect GENI, MAX, and MAX members using !OpenFlow.  Make aggregate resources available to GENI experimenters.__BR

Status:BR
During this period we expanded our !OpenFlow network to include a Dell/Force10 S4810 !OpenFlow Switch.  This was added to the six Pronto !OpenFlow switches which were already in the network.  In addition, we deployed an instance of the Internet2 OESS software suite.  We are planning to keep up with the latest OESS software from Internet2 including GENI Aggregate Manager functionality once that is available.  We also deployed an InstaGENI rack which includes !OpenFlow capabilities.

__MAXREGIONAL:S4.b Develop a prototype ION stitching service and demonstrate it at GEC16.  Work with GENI architecture group to defined stitching RSPEC extensions and other common interfaces needed for stitching.__BR

Status:
We developed GENI RSpec stitching extensions and worked with ProtoGENI and ExoGENI Aggregate Manager developers to incorporate into their software.   We developed and tested an instance of the MAX Aggregate Manager which was tailored to cover the Internet2 ION network. This allows standard GENI tools and provisioning methods to include Internet2 ION circuits to be provisioned as part of GENI Slices.

Slice instantiation which included stitching across Internet2 ION was demonstrated as part of GEC16:

__MAXREGIONAL:S4.c Improve stitching service with additional development and integration, and conduct joint operational testing with early stitching participants in GENI (for example Internet2 and LONI).  Demonstrate the operational service with operations participants at GEC17.__BR

Status:
We continued testing and made improvements to the MAX Aggregate Manager and the instance which is covering the Internet2 ION network.   We assisted the Internet2 NOC who installed and deployed an instance of the MAX Aggregate Manager to cover the ION network.  The Internet2 NOC is now running this GENI AM as an operational service and is generally available for GENI Stitching activities.  This capability was demonstrated as part of GEC17 demonstrations.

Stitching across Internet2 ION demonsraated at GEC17:

__MAXREGIONA:S4.d Expand deployment of stitching service to additional GENI participants (regionals and campuses), continue development and integration improvements and support regular operations and changes in the GENI architecture standards during this period.__BR

Status:
We continued to work with the OMNI tool developers to refine stitching operations to allow stitching between different GENI resources.  This includes any network running the Dynamic Circuit Network (DCN) functionality such as Internet2 ION or DYNES sites.  In addition, we have demonstrated stitching between InstaGENI and ExoGENI resources.

=== B. Deliverables made ===
During this reporting period we completed the following deliverables:

Upgrade of MAX OpenFlow network including connection to MAX InstaGENI rack and Internet2 AL2S.
   * used to connect MAX InstaGENI rack to GENI Mesoscale via AL2s.

==  II Description of work performed during last quarter ==
=== A. Activities and findings ===

Networks which include Dynamic Circuit Network (DCN) capabilities can be included in GENI Stitching operations.  This is accomplished via the use of a GENI Aggregate Manager running on top of the OSCARS provisioning system on Internet2 ION.  This same technique would also work for any DYNES deployment, which is also OSCARS based.   Future dynamic networks based on other systems/protocols such as NSI could be adapted to the GENI slice instantiation and stitching environment in a similar manner.

=== C. Publications (individual and organizational) ===
No formal publications were funded by this projects during this time period.

=== D. Outreach activities ===
The current focus of our outreach activities is thru our collaborations with other Aggregates such as ProtoGENI, ExoGENI, and GENI Rack deployment sites.

We have received the MAX InstaGENI rack.  This has been installed and connected to the MAX Aggregate which enables stitching thru Internet2 ION.  The MAX InstaGENI rack is also connected thru Internet2 AL2S to the GENI Mesoscale infrastructure.  This rack has completed acceptance testing and will soon be generally available for GENI community use.  We also plan to encourage more outreach to potential experimenters at University of Maryland and other universities in the MAX footprint.

=== E. Collaborations ===
As part of the activities and milestones described here, we have had extensive collaborations with many in the GENI community.  This includes CRON, ProtoGENI, ExoGENI, and GPO developers.  A large focus of our milestones during this reporting period revolved around network stitching architecture, design, and software development.  These activities required collaborations with other GENI aggregate manager developers.
