You can also use an existing slice that does not have resources already too. ----- == Allocate Resources == Span(id=usingGENIDesktop) 1. __Using GENIDesktop__ Once you have created the slice successfully , you should will be redirected to page that talks with allocating resources. If you plan to use an existing slice with no resources in it, then just click on the slicename in the list of slices you see after you logged in. To see how to do this in the GENIDesktop, please see [wiki:GeniDesktop/Manual/gettingStarted/Create_sliver_jacks#CreatingaSliversusingJACKSintheGeniDesktop this page ] Span(id=usingothers) 2. __Using Other Tools__ You can use any other tools to allocate resources to your slice once the resources are in a GENI __ready__ state. To use your reserved resources with the GENIDesktop, your slice needs to contain a Global Node per aggregate (rack) used. If your slice does not contain one, then the GENIDesktop will prompt you with a message about this. You will need to click on "Yes" to this option. brImage(add_global.png,25%)br The GENI Portal provides the option of adding a Global Node when reserving your resources (See "Add Global Node" Button). It also has a link to the GENIDesktop in "Tool" section of its menu on the top right. ---- == Using a previously instrumentized Slice == Span(id=old_slice) The GENIDesktop uses a session based approach to accessing a user's slices. What this means is that the GENIDesktop does not store any private information likes passwords,SSH keys, GENI Credentials or login information. A logout operation or closing the browser will cause all private information to be deleted from the GENIDesktop. Hence the next time a user tries to access a slice that was used previously in the GENIDesktop, the slice goes through an additional step where it requests for authorization from the Aggregates (racks) to access your resources. ---- == Waiting for slice and resources to become ready == Once a user allocates resources, the user is redirected to their slice specific GENIDesktop page. On this page you can view your resources being allocated indicated by the colored status of the nodes where - Yellow mean OS Loading/booting - Red means Failed - Green mean Ready Image(1.png,50%) Nodes that are in the process of booting are displayed in Yellow. Nodes that are read are Green. Nodes that have failed to boot are displayed in Red. Image(2.png,50%)Image(3.png,50%) Once all of the nodes are in a READY State you will notice the status window displaying a status of Initializing followed by Instrumentizing. These will be explained in the next sections. Once the instrumentation phase is complete you can proceed. ---- Navigation: [wiki:GeniDesktop/Manual Back]/[wiki:GeniDesktop/Manual Index]/[wiki:GeniDesktop/Manual/init Next]
