GENIDesktop Archive Module

This modules can be used if you need to save off all your experiment graphs and table at that point in time to the GENI Irods Server hosted at https://geni-gimi.renci.org:8443/idrop-web2/ site. You will need a GENI Irods account to use this module. This can be obtained from the GENI Portal.

  1. Click on the Archive button. In the small window that shows up as shown in the figure below,
  2. Select the checkbox for the GN Node for which you want to archive the data.You may see more than one GDGN Node if you are using multiple racks for this slice.
  3. Type in a valid name GENI Irods username and password.
  4. Click on Archive to IRODS button to begin the archive process. This process should launch a new window/tab in your browser that will perform the archive process. You should see one such tab/window per GDGN node in your slice.

NOTE: Please do not launch another archive process while one is already running.You can launch a new one after the current process is complete.

GENIDesktop Archive Viewer

The GENIDesktop provides a tool that will help view,download and visualize all archived Data points created using the GENIDesktop Archive module. In order to view these archived datapoints, please download and install the tool Vagrant from this link. You will also need to download the attached Vagrant file

Vagrant uses VirtualBox under the hood. If you do not have Virtualbox already installed on your machine, Vagrant should try to do that for you when vagrant is run the first time. In case it fails to install virtualbox , you may have to install Virtualbox manually by downloading (and install) it from the VirtualBox Website

In the directory you had downloaded the attached Vagrantfile, please open up a terminal window and run the command
NOTE: If Using any version of Windows OS as your host machine, you will need to open up a command prompt window in administrator mode (Run as Administrator). Not doing so will result in a failure in setting up the VM.

vagrant up

This will take some time if run for the first time since it will try to download a Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit image that is used as a base. Once the setup is complete as shown below

Once the setup is complete, your Archive Viewer is ready and running. You can familiarize yourself with some of vagrant commands

We have setup a webserver on this virtual machine that can be accessed by your local web browser by going to either

http://localhost:8888/

OR

http://192.168.33.22/

You will then be required to enter your GENI Irods username and password. Once logged in, a list of all the archives created using the GENIDesktop archive module are listed . You may choose to download any to your local VM and view them. You can choose to

  1. Re-download any of these remote archives
  2. Delete any of these remote archives
  3. Delete any of the already downloaded (local copy) archive points. You may need to do this in case you run out of disk space on your Archive Viewer VM.

==<Screenshots go here

When viewing archived graphs, you can set a start and end time for all the data you wish to see in a graph.

More Useful Vagrant Commands

  1. To ssh into the Archive Viewer VM use
vagrant ssh
  1. To view all forwarded ports
vagrant port
The forwarded ports for the machine are listed below. Please note that
these values may differ from values configured in the Vagrantfile if the
provider supports automatic port collision detection and resolution.

    22 (guest) => 2222 (host)
    80 (guest) => 8888 (host)
  1. To stop or shutdown the VM
    vagrant halt
    ==> default: Attempting graceful shutdown of VM...

  1. To delete the VM
    vagrant destroy
        default: Are you sure you want to destroy the 'default' VM? [y/N] y
    ==> default: Destroying VM and associated drives...

  1. Other commands , use the help option

using the command

vagrant -h

Usage: vagrant [options] <command> [<args>]

    -v, --version Print the version and exit.
    -h, --help                       Print this help.

Common commands:
     box manages boxes: installation, removal, etc.
     destroy stops and deletes all traces of the vagrant machine
     global-status outputs status Vagrant environments for this user
     halt            stops the vagrant machine
     help shows the help for a subcommand
     init initializes a new Vagrant environment by creating a Vagrantfile
     login log in to HashiCorp's Atlas

     plugin manages plugins: install, uninstall, update, etc.
     port displays information about guest port mappings
     powershell connects to machine via powershell remoting
     provision       provisions the vagrant machine
     push deploys code in this environment to a configured destination
     rdp connects to machine via RDP
     reload restarts vagrant machine, loads new Vagrantfile configuration
     resume resume a suspended vagrant machine
     snapshot manages snapshots: saving, restoring, etc.
     ssh connects to machine via SSH
     ssh-config outputs OpenSSH valid configuration to connect to the machine
     status outputs status of the vagrant machine
     suspend         suspends the machine
