InstaGENI Aggregate

University of Wisconsin-Madison InstaGENI OpenFlow

This InstaGENI aggregate supports the GENI Aggregate Provider Agreement (10/22/2013).

InstaGENI Aggregate Overview

Aggregate Manager URL https://foam.instageni.wisc.edu:3626/foam/gapi/2
Aggregate Manager URN urn:publicid:IDN+openflow:foam:foam.instageni.wisc.edu+authority+am
Aggregate Manager Common Name wisconsin-ig-of
Aggregate Resources An InstaGENI aggregate includes 5 Hosts (3 VM Servers and 2 dedicated PCs) that can load experimenter specified OS images. Racks also support OpenFlow topologies, usually including extensions onto campus OpenFlow networks. Rack servers are HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8.
Typical Experiments InstaGENI provides a controllable, predictable, and repeatable network environment. Experimenters can get virtual machines or dedicated PCs on which they have full "root" access, run available operating systems of their choice, and connect nodes in an arbitrary topology that can support OpenFlow.
Sample RSpecs http://groups.geni.net/geni/browser/trunk/GENIRacks/InstaGENI/Spiral5/RSpecs/ConfirmationTests/Wisconsin
Aggregate Status Operational monitoring not widely available, restricted access to monitoring at GMOC
Slice Authorities Recognized GENI Portal (https://portal.geni.net), ProtoGENI (http://www.emulab.net)
Usage Policies A GENI Recommended Use Policy is available. Site should also add links here to their own usage policies.
Layer 2 Connectivity Internet2 ION via MOXI-CIC OpenFlow Regional Network

The following is the layout of OpenFlow switch connections for the InstaGENI Aggregate. Shown are the OpenFlow Switches:

  • InstaGENI Switch procurve2: Model: HP J8697A Switch E5406zl with VLAN 2497 (Maps to 1750 in GENI core) DPID: 09:c1:2c:59:e5:5d:0f:00

No image "UWOpenFlow-v1.jpg" attached to GeniAggregate/WisconsinInstaGENIOpenFlow

NOTE: OpenFlow resources at must be allocated at MOXI-CIC OpenFlow Regional to connect to the GENI core network.

All UW InstaGENI nodes participating in layer2 dataplane OpenFlow experiments are on the following VLAN:

VLAN ID Purpose
2497 Shared Meso-scale OpenFlow VLAN

All UW InstaGENI nodes participating non-OpenFlow layer2 data plane experiments are on the following VLANs:

VLAN ID Purpose
912 UW WiMAX lab non-OpenFlow VLAN
925 Mobility First non-OpenFlow VLAN
926 FIA project non-OpenFlow VLAN
927 FIA project non-OpenFlow VLAN
928 FIA project non-OpenFlow VLAN
929 FIA project non-OpenFlow VLAN

Shared Meso-scale Port List

UW OpenFlow connection to the GENI core network is via port name="A19" num="19" on the procurve2 switch on VLAN 2497. This port is also used to connect to the on-campus WiMAX lab on VLAN 912, and the GENI core network on VLAN 925-929 for FIA projects.

All host eth1, eth2 and eth3 interfaces are connected to the OpenFlow switch for experimental use. Full list of port names and port numbers:
