InstaGENI Aggregate

GENI Project Office (GPOLab) InstaGENI FOAM

This InstaGENI aggregate supports the GENI Aggregate Provider Agreement (02/27/2013). Recording agreement date based on conversation with Heidi Dempsey.

Color( #FF8C10, #ffffff , This rack is used for early development and integration of new GENI features. Scheduled maintenance and upgrades are likely to be more frequent here than at other racks.)?

InstaGENI Aggregate Overview

Aggregate Manager URL https://foam.instageni.gpolab.bbn.com:3626/foam/gapi/2
Aggregate Manager URN urn:publicid:IDN+openflow:foam:foam.instageni.gpolab.bbn.com+authority+am
Aggregate Manager Common Name gpo-ig-of
Aggregate Resources An InstaGENI aggregate includes 5 Hosts (3 VM Servers and 2 dedicated PCs) that can load experimenter specified OS images. Racks also support OpenFlow topologies, usually including extensions onto campus OpenFlow networks. Rack servers are HP ProLiant DL380 G7.

Typical Experiments InstaGENI provides a controllable, predictable, and repeatable network environment. Experimenters can get virtual machines or dedicated PCs on which they have full "root" access, run available operating systems of their choice, and connect nodes in an arbitrary topology that can support OpenFlow.
Aggregate Status Restricted access to monitoring at http://genimon.uky.edu and GMOC
Slice Authorities Recognized GENI Portal (https://portal.geni.net), ProtoGENI (http://www.emulab.net)
Usage Policies The GENI Recommended Use Policy is available.
Layer 2 Connectivity NLR and Internet2 available via the GPOLab OpenFlow Aggregate.

The following is the layout of OpenFlow switch connections for the InstaGENI Aggregate. Shown are the OpenFlow Switches:

  • InstaGENI Switch procurve2: Model: HP J8697A Switch E5406zl with VLAN 1750 DPID: 06:d6:84:34:97:c6:c9:00
  • GPO Site Switch poblano: Model: NEC IP880 with VLAN 1750 DPID: 06:d6:00:12:e2:b8:a5:d0

All GPO InstaGENI nodes are on Experimental VLANs. InstaGENI VLANs include:

VLAN ID Purpose
1750 Shared Meso-scale OpenFlow VLAN
1755-1759 Exclusive Meso-scale OpenFlow VLANs to NLR
2644-2649 InstaGENI Stitching VLAN range to NLR
3747-3749 InstaGENI Stitching VLAN range to Internet2

Note: Deprecated VLANs are only available by special arrangement with the GPO and should not be used for new experiments.

Shared Meso-scale Port List

GPO Lab OpenFlow connection is via port name="E24" num="120" on the procurve2 switch.

All host eth1, eth2 and eth3 interfaces are connected to the OpenFlow switch for experimental use. Full list of port names and port numbers:

Shared Nodes interfaces (port name/port number) details:

Hosteth1eth2eth3Virtualization
pc1 E1/97 E2/98 E3/99 OpenVZ
pc2 E4/100 E5/101 E6/102 OpenVZ
pc5 E13/109 E14/110 E15/111 Xen

Dedicated Nodes interfaces (port name/port number) details:

pc3 E7/103 E8/104 E9/105
pc4 E10/106 E11/107 E12/108

Exclusive Mesoscale VLANs Port List

GPO Lab IG currently support VLANs 1755-1759 as exclusive OpenFlow VLANs. These correspond to the following DPIDs:

VLAN DPID
1755 06:db:84:34:97:c6:c9:00
1756 06:dc:84:34:97:c6:c9:00
