ExoGENI Aggregate

GPOLab ExoGENI FOAM

This ExoGENI aggregate supports the GENI Aggregate Provider Agreement (02/27/2013). Recording agreement date based on conversation with Heidi Dempsey.

ExoGENI Aggregate Overview

Color( #FF8C10, #ffffff , This rack is used for early development and integration of new GENI features. Scheduled maintenance and upgrades are likely to be more frequent here than at other racks.)?

Aggregate Manager URL https://bbn-hn.exogeni.net:3626/foam/gapi/1
Aggregate Manager URN urn:publicid:IDN+openflow:foam:bbn-hn.exogeni.gpolab.bbn.com+authority+am
Aggregate Manager Common Name gpo-of-eg
Aggregate Resources An ExoGENI aggregate includes 10 Hosts (8 VM Servers and 2 dedicated PCs ) that can load experimenter specified OS images. Racks also support OpenFlow topologies, including extensions onto campus OpenFlow networks. Note PCs are only available via RENCI Global resource manager the ExoSM.
Typical Experiments ExoGENI supports both compute and and network resource slivers, that can be managed by either a site specific aggregate manager or by the ExoSM, the RENCI Global Resource Manager. Experimenters can get virtual machines or dedicated PCs on which they have full "root" access, run operating systems of their choice, and connect nodes in an arbitrary topology that can support OpenFlow.
Aggregate Status Operational monitoring not widely available, restricted access to monitoring at GMOC
Slice Authorities Recognized GENI Portal (https://portal.geni.net), ProtoGENI (http://www.emulab.net)
Usage Policies The GENI Recommended Use Policy is available.
Layer 2 Connectivity NLR and Internet2 available via the GPOLab OpenFlow Aggregate. Interconnectivity to ExoGENI racks is implemented through a hub and spoke topology that maps ExoGENI rack participants to RENCI ExoGENI resources using NLR's FrameNet service. For BBN, Vlans 2601-2610 extend from RENCI to NOX where they're delivered directly to BBN. Vlans 1750 (shared) and 1755-1759 (exclusive) are available for meso-scale connectivity.

The following is the layout of OpenFlow switch connections for the ExoGENI Aggregate. Shown are the OpenFlow Switches:

  • ExoGENI Switch bbn-8264: Model:IBM G8264 with DPID: 00:01:08:17:f4:b5:2a:00
  • GPO Site Switch poblano: Model: NEC IP8800 with VLAN 1750 DPID: 06:d6:00:12:e2:b8:a5:d0

All GPO ExoGENI nodes are on Experimental VLANs. ExoGENI VLANs include:

VLAN ID Purpose
1750 Shared Meso-scale OpenFlow VLAN
1755-1759 Exclusive Meso-scale OpenFlow VLANs to NLR
2601-2610 ExoGENI reservable resource VLAN range to NLR
3741 ExoGENI reservable resource VLAN to Internet2

Note: Deprecated VLANs are only available by special arrangement with the GPO and should not be used for new experiments.
