Part 1 Design and Setup
1. Obtain resources
For this experiment we will need:
- 6 VMs (NodesA-F) with images that come with pre-installed GIMI tools. For more details on what is installed on these images go here (Type A)
- 2 VMs (Switch1 and Switch2) with images that come with pre-installed GIMI tools and OVS. (Type B)
The Type A nodes represent regular end systems while the Type B nodes are used as a software-based OpenFlow (OVS) switch. The resulting slice topology for this experiment is shown in the screenshot below.
You can use the jFed tool to reserve this topology:
- Use the RSpec that is published at: http://emmy9.casa.umass.edu/FGRE2014/learningswitch.xml for InstaGENI

1.1 Login to Nodes sender and Receiver
1.1.1 Find your Node
Click on the "Login" button next to the node you would like to SSH into.
