GEC15 Tutorials

GEC15 was held in Houston Texas on October 23-25. Agenda and registration information are here. You can see a video of many of the tutorials here: here.

GEC14 Tutorials

GEC14 in Boston on July 9-11 included nine experimenter tutorials, an update on experimentation activity, the experimenter roundtable, and an opportunity for one-on-one support at the coding sprint. In conjunction with GEC14, NSF is sponsoring a workshop, "Designing Tools and Curricula for Undergraduate Courses in Distributed Systems," where attendees shared best practices to incorporate testbeds like GENI into widespread use in the classroom.

GENI Tutorials at Non-GENI Venues

June 2012 marked the first GENI experimenter tutorials at non-GENI venues.

  • 6/11/2012 GENI Tutorials at TridentCom. There were three GENI tutorials offered at TridentCom 2012 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The tutorials are:
    • Getting Started with GENI: A User Tutorial by Jonathan Duerig of the University of Utah. This tutorial provides an overview of GENI and will cover the process of creating a network and running a simple experiment using two tools: the Flack GUI and the INSTOOLS instrumentation service.
    • Designing and Deploying Network Experiments in GENI by Niky Riga and Mark Berman of the GENI Project Office. This tutorial offers attendees hands-on experience using GENI and designing both IP and non-IP network experiments.
    • Experimentation in a Multi-site GENI WiMAX Network using Orbit Management Framework by Ivan Seskar (Rutgers University), Fraida Fund (Polytechnic Institute of New York University), Abhimanyu Gosain (GPO) and Harry Mussman (GPO). Tutorial attendee get hands-on experience using the Orbit Management Framework (OMF) to define IP and Non-IP experiments across a multi-site GENI WiMAX deployment.
  • 6/11/2012 GENI Tutorial at SIGMETRICS. Jay Aikat and Kevin Jaffay of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill conducted tutorial titled Introduction to Network Experiments Using the GENI CyberInfrastructure. This tutorial includes an introduction to GENI followed by a hands-on component where attendees use the Flack tool to go through the entire process of setting up an experiment to the measuring of network traffic generated by their experiment.

First GENI Summer Camp

5/29/2012 - 6/2/2012 GENI Summer Camp : This was a one-week summer camp that provided participants with the opportunity to learn and use the various tools available in the GENI environment through tutorials, labs, and a team-based project. Undergraduate and graduate students and faculty at different-level colleges, and people from industry attended.

First GENI Research and Educational Workshop

The first GENI Research and Educational Workshop was held on March 15 and 16, jointly with GEC13 in Los Angeles. Its was to report the recent progress and explore future direction of GENI from an experimenter’s point of view.

First DFG/GENI Doctoral Consortium

The first DFG/GENI doctoral consortium was held March 13-15, 2011, in conjunction with the 10th GENI Engineering Conference (GEC10) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The consortium was jointly organized by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The co-chairs were Paul Mueller of the University of Kaiserslautern and Mike Zink of the University of Massachusetts. Participation was by invitation only. For additional information, see FirstDfgGeniDoctoralConsortium.

GEC9 Plenary Demos

At GEC9, during the plenary session 9 experimenters demoed their GENI experiments. GPO captured the setup for some of the experiments here.

GENI Experimenters Workshop

A workshop for GENI experimenters was held in Princeton, NJ on June 29-30, 2010. See the CFP.
