GENIMonitoring: Exploring the System from the User Perspective

The GENI resource monitoring system collects topology records about the way independently-owned GENI network, processing, and storage resources connect to form a research environment. Using these relations, the GENI Monitoring system collector polls aggregates for metric data about resources contributed to GENI.

While this monitoring system is largely operational in nature, it has the potential to assist GENI experimenters with some insightful information enabling the experimenter to view their GENI usage and monitor their respective activity.

This hands-on session is structured with the operator in mind, with additional elements to intrigue the experimenter. Attendees will use their own monitoring accounts to participate & explore the following topics:

  • How to access the system
  • Adding GENI email that is used to identify your slices & slivers
  • Viewing slices, slivers and links associated with your GENI usage
  • Drilling down farther into specific utilization of nodes and links that are in use by your slices
  • Identifying a mock issue and tracing it back to system status to determine the cause
  • Rewinding in time
  • Creating Reports
  • Creating Alerts

The session will end with an opportunity for attendees to give feedback on what features or enhancements they will find useful, and what might be added to the GENIMonitoring system.
