Call for Sessions, Tutorials, and Tutorial Instructors / Helpers
For the upcoming GENI Engineering Conference 23 (GEC23), proposals are solicited for sessions and tutorials.
- Sessions can be presentations, discussions, or community working meetings.
- Tutorials should have an interactive, hands-on component but they can be a combination of presentation, interactive workshop, and hands-on training.
We are also looking for volunteer helpers and instructors for the following tutorials:
- volunteer helpers for all tutorials from Mon-Wed (June 15-17),
- a small number of instructors for the introductory sequence on Monday (June 15),
- an instructor for the Introduction to OpenFlow tutorial (data TBD).
Session leaders, tutorial instructors, and helpers from US institutions who need assistance with travel costs will receive priority for Travel Grants.

Proposals for Sessions and Tutorials
Sessions can have a duration ranging from 1 to 4 hours. Please see agendas from previous GECs for examples of past sessions.
Preference will be given to sessions concerning or using GENI federated resources. They should cover topics of interest to the GENI community including but not limited to:
- Sessions for experimenters, educators, operators, developers
- Discussion of federation or use of GENI Federated Aggregates, including international testbeds
- Development or use of experimenter tools
- Tools for managing experiments (including standard software or system administration tools)
- Experiment methodology
- The use of GENI in education
- Session or tutorials on networking, distributed systems, SDNs, cloud computing, SDIs, 4G wireless
Proposals that cover multiple topics are encouraged.
Submission information
Proposals should contain the following information:
- Title, Presenter(s) and a full list of instructors
- Session Type: presentation, hands-on tutorial, or discussion/community working meeting
- Abstract
- Intended audience: experimenter, developer, operations (or a combination)
- Level: beginner, intermediate, advanced
- Duration - Detailed description and outline (1 page maximum)
- Has this session been given before and if so how will this session be different.
- In addition, hands-on tutorials MUST include:
- Prerequisites
- The attached form completed.
Proposals should be submitted in PDF format, should not exceed two (2) pages (not including the attached form), and be sent to gec-tutorials@googlegroups.com

Call for Tutorial Leads and Helpers
We are seeking:
- Instructors for the Getting Started with GENI introductory tutorial sequence,
- Instructors for the Introduction to OpenFlow tutorial, and
- Helpers for tutorials on Mon-Wed (June 15-17) of the conference.
Tutorial helpers and instructors from US institutions who need assistance with travel costs will receive priority for Travel Grants.
Preference will be given to applicants who can support multiple tutorials. We will accommodate conflicts with other GEC sessions and demos.
Submission information
If you are interested in helping in this capacity, please send an email to gec-tutorials@googlegroups.com by Friday, May 1, with the following information:
- Your contact information including:
- Name
- School or Institution
- Role (Professor, PhD/Masters/undergraduate student, Staff, etc)
- Advisor (if applicable)
- Have you attended GENI tutorials before (at GEC or anywhere else)? If so, which ones.
- How have you used GENI outside a tutorial (e.g. classroom exercises, classroom projects, thesis/dissertation, instructor/TA of a class, developer, admin/operations)?
- Any additional comments (e.g. special areas of expertise)?
- Are you interested in being a lead for the Getting Started with GENI tutorials on Monday, June 15? Are you interested in being a lead for the Introduction to OpenFlow tutorial on a TBD date?
