Advanced OpenFlow Tutorial

Instructors

The purpose of this tutorial is to get familiar with the OpenFlow Protocol, understands how it works and get some hands-on experience in writing your own OpenFlow controller. At the tutorial we will also review the current use of OpenFlow in GENI, demonstrate a simple setup and learn how you can setup your own experiment.

Pre-Requisites

This tutorial assumes that they attendees are familiar with:

  1. "Basic GENI concepts". It is assumed that the attendees have a basic understanding of GENI, the GENI Experimenter Portal, its resources and how to setup an experiment
  2. "Basic OpenFlow concepts". It is assumed that the attendees, already have an understanding of OpenFlow and its API
  3. "GIMI tools". Although not a requirement, it would be useful if attendees are familiar with the GIMI tools for instrumenting and measuring their experiment.

Before you come to the tutorial please make sure that you:

  1. GENI Tutorial VM. For this tutorial we are going to use the GENI tutorial VM. You are going to get an email about downloading a copy of the VM.
  2. Access to GENI. In this tutorial we are going to use GENI resources, you will receive an email about how to activate your access to the GENI Portal. Please follow the instructions before coming to the tutorial.

Please Arrive With:

Laptop with a recent version of Virtual Box.
