The goal of this session is to review the role of switches in GENI topologies, with a particular focus on the use of SDN switching technologies such as OpenFlow. Nick Bastin will provide an overview of network switches and what they do well and don't do well and the state of OpenFlow switches, with a focus on topology discovery challenges. Marshall will then discuss the SDN environment provided to experimenters in an OF-enabled topology and the impact of different switch features on different topology and experiment behaviors. We hope both topics will bring on a lively engaged discussion.
