=== Tutorial: Introduction to GENI using Flack and the Instrumentation Portal === ==== Organizers ==== Rob Ricci, ''Univ. Utah''; Jim Griffioen, ''Univ. Kentucky'' ==== Time ==== Tues 1:00 - 3:00 pm === Description === This hands-on tutorial will illustrate the GENI experimenter workflow using Flack, a graphical experiment control tool. Attendees will create and run a simple experiment using geographically distributed resources from multiple GENI aggregates. Topics to be covered include creating a GENI slice, discovering resources, adding resources to a slice, deploying experiment software, and instrumenting the experiment. === Prerequisites === A basic understanding of GENI concepts (will be covered in the Newcomers' Session) === Please Arrive With: === Laptop with recent version of Adobe Flash. A laptop, rather than a tablet, is strongly preferred. If you are unable to bring one you may partner with someone else. === Pre-Work === '''Note''' - Please complete this step in advance, as doing it on the day of the tutorial will take up a lot of time. Apply to "Start A New Project" at this page: https://www.emulab.net/newproject.php3 If multiple people from the same group are attending this tutorial, one (preferably a faculty member, PI, etc.) can start the project, and others can join it, using a link that the project leader will receive when the project is approved. === Tutorial Web Pages === Complete documentation for the tutorial can be found at: http://protogeni.net/tutorial.html It includes step by step instructions showing how to setup a GENI slice, instrumentize the slice, and view live traffic graphs. === Results === After completing this tutorial, you will be able to create a slice on multiple GENI aggregates and install tools to instrument the behavior of that slice. The account that you create for the tutorial is a real GENI account, and you will be able to use it to run experiments
