We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ada Gavrilovska from the Center for Experimental Research in Computer Systems (CERCS) at Georgia Tech will deliver a keynote talk, and we will have a panel on Software Defined Networks (SDN) and a tutorial on OpenFlow. In the GREE program, we will have 18 papers to be presented on the authors' experimental research with GENI testbeds.

GREE 2014: OpenFlow Tutorial and Demo

It is a pleasure to announce that we will have a new OpenFlow tutorial and demo at GREE 2014. This tutorial is designed to provide insight into how OpenFlow can be used to conduct network experiments. At present, Clemson University is developing a seamless vertical handover testbed for use by future GENI experimenters. The design of the testbed utilizes OpenFlow and consists of two key components that enable a seamless handover: (1) the client-level and (2) the network-level. Each will be described in detail at the introduction for this tutorial, and you will be given the opportunity to explore a version of the client-level implementation. For the purpose of this tutorial, the client-level component has been ported to a virtual machine (VM) so all can participate without regard to the unique hardware capabilities of each participant. Call for Papers

The Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI) http://groups.geni.net/geni/wiki is a suite of research infrastructure rapidly taking shape across the United States. GENI provides a virtual laboratory for networking and distributed systems research and education. It is well suited for exploring networks at scale thereby promoting innovations in network science, security, services and applications. Over a thousand experimenters are using GENI for research and education and their numbers continue to grow rapidly.

The third GREE Workshop (GREE 2014) will run from noon March 19 to noon March 20, co-located with GEC19 in Atlanta, GA. As with previous successful GREE workshops (GREE2012 in Los Angeles, California and GREE2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah), this workshop will aim to inspire researchers and students to use GENI in novel and interesting ways. The workshop will also foster communication between GENI experimenters and GENI developers. The workshop will include a keynote speech, paper presentations, an experimenter panel/open discussion, tutorials and demos.

We strongly encourage participations not only from current GENI developers and experimenters, but also from researchers not previously involved in GENI but are interested in using it for research and education. We wish to build a larger community of researchers and students using the GENI infrastructure.

We solicit GENI related research and education papers in all areas. We welcome "regular papers" that report research results as well as "short papers" that report on-going work and may not be complete. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Novel protocol research and experimentation
  • Network security related experiments
  • Software defined networking
  • GENI-based courseware and tutorials
  • Experiences using GENI in the classroom
  • Novel GENI tools and services for experimenters and operators
  • Design of experiments
  • Federating GENI with other testbeds

We are also interested in proposals for tutorials that might be of interest to GENI experimenters.For tutorial proposals please email GREEworkshop@gmail.com. All papers will go through a thorough review process by experienced researchers who will provide constructive feedback. Furthermore, all accepted papers will be submitted for indexing by IEEE Conference Publishing Services (CPS).

GREE 2014 will offer awards to the best research and best education paper in the workshop program.

Partial travel support from BBN-GPO/NSF may be available.

Submission Instructions

Format of Manuscript: All submissions should follow the IEEE standard 8.5" x 11" two-column format (http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html). Research/education regular paper submissions should not exceed 8 pages, while short paper submissions should not exceed 4 pages.
