Increase portability to support latest tool changes on current Linux distributions (CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora).

In their report at the OpenFlow Campus Trials projects' annual status review, Stanford reported "Delivered. Published guide for porting to CentOS and reduced dependency".
