Subject: Feedback for Flowvisor 0.8.1.2 From: Luisa Nevers Date: 9/27/2011 1:16 PM To: nick.bastin@gmail.com CC: Josh Smift , Luisa Nevers Hello Nick, My name is Luisa Nevers and I work at BBN. I am currently looking at FlowVisor 0.8.1.2 for the GENI Integration Release. I have some questions and feedback about the https://openflow.stanford.edu/display/flowvisor/fv_deploy page. I followed the instructions for a FlowVisor Ubuntu package install and configuration on a new system and have run into these issues/questions: 1. Page points to file /usr/local/etc/flowvisor/flowvisor-config.xml, but file tha is delivered has different name and path /usr/etc/flowvisor/config.xml. 2. Several mismatched paths are found: /usr/local/sbin/ should be /usr/sbin/ /usr/local/etc/flowvisor/ should be /usr/etc/flowvisor/ 3a. If a user follow the" install ubuntu package and configure" path, the instructions jump into using a password, but no instructions are given to set/generate a FlowVisor password. 3b. Also missing when following the " install ubuntu package and configure" path, are steps to set the user/group for the flowvisor. In the "source" sections there are instructions to generate a configuration which allows the user to set the password. Should the user generate the configuration when they install from Ubuntu package and overwrite the example provided to define a password and user/group? 4. If a user follow the" install ubuntu package and configure" path and runs the example invocation for flowvisor, they will set the SSL_KEYPASSWD=CHANGEME_PASSWD in the /usr/etc/flowvisor/envs.sh file. Should there be instructions to modify this variable? Although this is in the clear and not secure. 5. Is this still appropriate? Flowvisor 0.8.1.2 reports "FlowVisor version: flowvisor-0.8.1". One more question, do you want bug reports for any of the above? Thank You, Luisa Nevers
