Demo Title: Virtual Energy Center: Collaborative Exploration in Networked VR Environments and Application to Remotely-Guided Classroom
This demo shows preliminary work on a networked virtual reality system for education about alternative energy devices.
Attendees interested in educational or networked virtual reality should see this demo.
[co-PI Terrence Chambers may update this] We demonstrate an educational virtual reality environment that models a real alternative energy center. We seek to inspire and motivate the STEM workforce of tomorrow through exciting Virtual Reality approaches that teach renewable energy concepts and clearly show size, arrangement, and inter-operation of plant components. We are expanding the VR system to use high-performance networks to support bi-directional VR interaction between experts at a university or at the solar plant and high schools students at a STEM magnet academy. Such technologies will overcome geographic barriers to accessing expert instructors and will support virtual field trips with live instructors.

Streaming Query Builder: One-sentence layman's description: -This demo shows a working prototype of a system used to graphically construct complex streaming query using a hierarchical directed graph structure. Who should see this demo? -Attendees interested in pseudo real-time access to health, performance, and other resource metrics, or those interested in time series stream analysis. Demo description paragraph(s):
List of equipment that will need AC connections (e.g. laptop, switch, monitor): -Two laptops Total number of wired network connections (sum standard IP and VLAN connections): -Two connections for laptop standard IP Number of wired layer 2 VLANs (if any): -An exclusive VLAN is not needed Number of wireless network connections (include required bandwidth if significant): -Not needed unless wireless is unavailable Number of static addresses needed (if any): -Not needed as long as dynamic addresses are unrestricted between devices. Monitor (y/n, specify VGA or DVI): yes. if possible, otherwise we can use the laptop and poster. Number of posters (max size poster boards are 30" x 40"): one poster Special requests: No special request. |

#1443 | duplicate | Demo Title: Creation of Situational Awareness for Emergency Response and Management Using Next Generation Gigabit Communication Systems | ||
Description |
One-sentence layman's description: a demonstration to speed up emergency communications by passing the normal IP forwarding and dependency on IP routing tables. The demonstration will be conducted over Emulab testbed. Comparison with normal information forwarding using BGP will be conducted.
Demo description paragraph(s): The demonstration will be in three steps. The first one will demo the performance comparison between a tiered routing protocol and BGP. The second stage will involve adapting MPLS as a transition platform to implement routing that will bypass IP and its routing protocols and proof of concept of the same. The third stage will demonstrate a modified MPLS code running on LINUX OS that is able to route using special labels. this modified MPLS will not depend on IP and its routing protocols List of equipment that will need AC connections (e.g. laptop, switch, monitor): 4 laptops will need AC connections + 3 monitors with AC connections
Number of wired layer 2 VLANs (if any): Specify VLAN number, if known, approximate bandwidth, and whether tagged or untagged.
