Experimenter Track

The Experimenter Track is designed to help researchers learn to use GENI for experimentation. For newcomers to GENI the track includes a number of introductory talks and hands-on tutorials. Attendees with some experience with GENI will find the track includes tutorials on specialized GENI resources and tools. There is no restriction on who can attend any tutorial, however we make some recommendations for newcomers.

Experimenters unfamiliar with GENI are strongly encouraged to attend the full day of tutorial sessions on Tuesday, July 26:

In addition, newcomers may also be interested in the tutorial on how to use the Sface tool to set up and run GENI experiments and the Experimenter Roundtable where current GENI experimenters will be giving developers feedback on what works well in GENI and the enhancements they'd like to see.

Experimenters with some knowledge of GENI and newcomers who have participated in the introductory tutorials described above may be interested in the NetServ tutorial where they will learn about a framework for deploying in-network services using Java modules; the tutorial on Gush, an advanced experiment control tool; and a tutorial on GpENI, programmable network testbed centered on a Midwest US regional optical network between The University of Kansas, Kansas State University, University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and University of Missouri – Kansas City.

Each tutorial includes a detailed description linked to from the GENI agenda page with preparatory work and background reading. Attendees should come prepared to engage in hands-on use of GENI. Many tutorials require laptops with VirtualBox software ( http://www.virtualbox.org/); attendees should have this software installed before the tutorials.

Campus Track

The Campus Track is focused on deployment and operations of GENI infrastructure. The track will include meetings to help new operators understand what GENI is and its concept of operations. Technology tutorials will be presented that are oriented towards an operations perspective. The track will also include sessions where campuses can agree upon GENI operations processes and procedures. The target participant is a campus or infrastructure operator hosting a GENI component or components.

Software Development Track

The Software Development track is focused on development of software to support GENI experimentation within the next 12-18 months. These sessions will include project highlights and overview reports, engineering meetings, and round tables for feedback and airing of concerns. The over-arching goal of this track is to focus on efforts that can support nation-wide networking research in the next year. The emphasis will be on key decisions blocking development progress. The target participant is a software developer or system integrator helping to build/integrate GENI.
