Setting up your laptop with GENI Tools
Some of the tutorials at this camp will require you have a laptop that has:
- The Omni experimenter tool installed,
- A browser capable of running Flash clients, and
- An ssh client.
1. Install Omni
Mac OS x
- Download the package: omniTools.dmg.
- Install the package using these instructions.
Windows
- Download this file: omni-tools-2.4.2-setup.exe.
- Install the package using these instructions.
Note The Windows Command Prompt can be found by navigating:Start menu -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt
Linux
- Download the GCF package from http://software.geni.net/local-sw/download&software=gcf-2.4.1.tar.gz
- Install the GCF package using instructions at http://trac.gpolab.bbn.com/gcf/wiki/QuickStart. The Omni tool is part of the GCF package.
Test the installation
- Open a new terminal window.
- In this terminal window, run the command:
omni.py --version
If omni prints out its version number, you are all set!
2. SSH Client
Mac OS X - Linux
Windows
Test SSH with keys
3. Flash-enabled Browser
- You will need Google Chrome or Firefox.
- Make sure you are able to load http://protogeni.net/flack
- If you do not have flash installed and you are using Firefox, install the Flash plugin for Firefox.
