Tutorial: Experimenter Workflow and Example Topologies

Schedule

Tuesday, 10:00am - noon

Session Leaders

Niky Riga, Sarah Edwards, GENI Project Office

Agenda / Details

The purpose of this tutorial is to discuss in detail the life-cycle of a GENI experiment, and provide hands-on experience about how to design and conduct experiments that span multiple aggregates. For this tutorial we are going to use the GENI multi-campus, layer 2 backbone network and discuss how you can choose different topologies. We are going to use both a graphical tool (Flack) and a command line tool (Omni( for reserving resources. In this tutorial, we are going to use the Omni client which is a command line tool for reserving resources across control frameworks.

Prerequisites

A basic understanding of GENI concepts (will be covered in the Intro To GENI tutorial). Although not a requirement, it is recommended that attendees are already familiar with Planetlab, ProtoGENI and OpenFlow aggregates.

Please Arrive With:

Laptop with recent version of Virtual Box. If you are unable to bring one you may partner with someone else.

Results

After completing this tutorial, you will have a working GENI slice that will include resources from different aggregates and you will know how to design and deploy a multi-aggregate experiment in GENI.

Although your account is temporary, it is a real GENI account that you can use to run experiments in GENI until it's deactivated. If you would like to experiment on GENI after that, please contact as at help@geni.net to get a permanent account.
