    1111  This tutorial provides an introduction to the Supercharged Planetlab
    12   Platform, now deployed as part of the GENI infrastructure.  The SPP
    13   is a high performance overlay hosting platform, enabling researchers
    14   to deploy overlay networks capable of handling internet-scale
    15   traffic volumes. The tutorial will include background on the various
    16   hardware and software components and the roles they play, plus a
    17   detailed description of the tools available to users to reserve and
    18   configure resources to carry out an experiment or demonstration. It
    19   will also include demonstrations showing the SPPs in action and a
    20   hands-on session during which participants will have an opportunity
    21   to work with the SPPs themselves.
     12  Platform (SPP), now deployed as part of the GENI infrastructure.
     13  The SPP is a high performance overlay hosting platform, enabling
     14  researchers to deploy overlay networks capable of handling
     15  internet-scale traffic volumes. Five SPP nodes are deployed within
     16  GENI, giving researchers the opportunity to deploy networks and
     17  applications with large geographically distributed user populations.
     18  The tutorial will include background on the various hardware and
     19  software components and the roles they play, plus a detailed
     20  description of the tools available to users to reserve and configure
     21  resources to carry out an experiment or demonstration. It will also
     22  include demonstrations showing the SPPs in action and a hands-on
     23  session during which participants will have an opportunity to work
     24  with the SPPs themselves.

     26==== Prerequisites ====
     27
     28  Knowledge of networking fundamentals (at the level of an
     29  undergraduate course based on the Kurose and Ross textbook or
     30  something similar). Some basic experience with Planetlab or Emulab
     31  is helpful, but not essential.
     32
     33==== Please arrive with... ====
     34
     35   A laptop, with a recent Java JRE installation and an SSH client.
     36   We can provide assistance if necessary, before the meeting.
     37
     38==== Pre-tutorial homework ====
     39
     40  None.
     41
     42==== Results ====
     43
     44  After completing this tutorial, you will be able to reserve and
     45  configure resources on the SPP infrastructure. Run and configure
     46  existing applications using the SPPs. You will also come away with
     47  an understanding of how to build your own experimental networks
     48  using the SPPs.
