CMU Lab Quarterly Status Report 4Q 2009

I. Major accomplishments

A. Milestones Achieved

  • Integrated experimentation between CMU testbeds (204, 215)

We have demonstrated experimentation between CMU testbeds as well as between CMU and other Emulab sites. This has been used to teach classes (locally and the University of Wisconsin) and to allow experiments on which papers have been written, and has included all three of our testbed environments (Wireless, Wired, and Homenet)

B. Deliverables made

....

II. Description of work performed during the last quarter

A. Activities and findings

Much of this quarter was spent on activities that were substantially, but not entirely, completed. Several work items were delayed due to our department moving into a new building, which required us to relocate our local Emulab cluster to a new machine room and to configure new fiber links to the wireless emulator. We anticipate completing these tasks early in the next quarter.

C. Publications (individual and organizational)

Accepted for publication: The Network Testbed Mapping Problem, Rick McGeer and David G. Andersen and Stephen Schwab, In Proc. 6th International Conference on Testbeds and Research Infrastructures for the Development of Networks and Communities (TridentCom) , May 2010, http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dga/papers/ntm-tridentcom2010.pdf

D. Outreach activities

E. Collaborations

As documented in the Utah quarterly report, we have been participating in weekly/biweekly conference calls with other members of our cluster. Our lead staff developer, Pat Gunn, has had other communications with smaller parts of the Emulab team as part of code design and development.

F. Other contributions

The publication listed above addresses new, faster, scalable solutions to the testbed mapping problem, a core challenge to Emulab-like testbed clusters including future GENI applications.
