Description

SoX is planning to install fiber and switch in May. Current plan is to start with a 1GB connection to Internet2, because 10GB optics for permanent connection to I2 are backordered.

Work with SoX to open GMOC ticket for scheduled connection to Internet2.

Ok, so I think the only dataplane connectivity change in the immediate term is the direct fiber path between SoX and Internet2. I'll check with Russ out of band to see if they have any dates in terms of

  • Receiving optics
  • Establishing the fiber path

I am currently trying to get in touch with Matt Z on when they plan to install the optics for the I2 OF switch. Once we get that figured out, we can probably set a date to flip the switch to on. Once we have that date, I'll go ahead an open up a GMOC ticket.

The optics were indeed received, and the fiber path was set up and tested. Light levels over the path from SoX to I2 were verified. The connection is still up, and I believe the ports are up, but none of the switch config has been done yet, so no traffic is being sent over the link.

We still need to schedule a date to turn things on, and we need to open a GMOC ticket for that. Some emails just started going by regarding this, and I suggested contacting the GMOC and scheduling this for next Tuesday or Wednesday.

GMOC ticket 169 was opened by Cas and the GMOC:

SUBJECT: GENI Regional SoX Connection in ATLA
AFFECTED: Regional SoX connection to the OF Backbone
                       of.atla.net.internet2.edu;
SCHEDULED START TIME: Tuesday, June 5, 2012, 1:00 PM (1300) UTC
SCHEDULED END TIME: Tuesday, June 5, 2012, 2:00 PM (1400) UTC
DESCRIPTION: Regional SoX Engineers will be connecting the SoX GENI switch to the
GENI OpenFlow Backbone via the Interne2 OpenFlow switch in ATLA. SoX
is setup for VLAN 1750 on the port facing Internet2. SoX is setup for
VLAN tagging on the interface. No service impact is expected as this
is a new connection, however entire maintenance window is reserved.
TICKET NO.: 169:126
TIMESTAMP: Thu May 31 18:36:39 2012 UTC

I'll keep this open for now just to track plumbing to Gatech and Clemson from SoX.

Ok, the hardware is installed, and we enabled and configured the connection from SoX to I2 earlier this week. Establishing this connection was tracked in GMOC ticket 169.
