2010-9 GENI "Hive Mind" Annual Report ===================================== Period: August 26, 2010 (date project was awarded) - September 17, 2010 (present) I. Major accomplishments A. Milestones achieved Hive: S2.a (on time 07/01/10): Selection of control framework for initial deployment. ProtoGENI Selected Hive: S2.b (on time 09/17/10): Design specification for security framework. Design specification delivered via email to V. Thomas. Hive: S2.c (on time 09/17/10): Very early prototype of monitoring software and distributed sensors. An early Java-based prototype is being finalized and will be delivered to V. Thomas probably during the week of Sept. 20-24, 2010. B. Deliverables made Hive: S2.b (on time 09/17/10): Design specification delivered via email to V. Thomas Hive: S2.c (on time 09/17/10): Early Java-based prototype delivered via email to V. Thomas. II. Description of work performed during last quarter A. Activities and findings The control framework was selected ealier in the summer. In the roughly one month since we ahve been funded, working code has been contributed to the project by Battele and Wake Forest. Significant progress was made on merging the Hive Mind concept to the details of ProtoGENI. Details on this are contained in the design spec (deliverable S2.b). Preliminary experiments have been performed. Assuming Year 2 funding, our next steps will be partially conceptual -- continuing to refine the model with the ProtoGENI testbed that it will be implemented on, following commentary from BBN and UofUtah -- and partially engineering, implementing the system and running experiments to have a working demo by GEC9. We are also in the process of website to increase project awareness. This is in the process of being created and hosted at PNNL. B.
