I. Major accomplishments

We completed a set of scenarios, three of which related to current events of interest on GENI (illicit downloading of music, DDoS attack on GENI, and collecting and sharing data), and two of interest to the Internet in the future (elections and telephone-to-tweet service in the context of Arab Spring). The latter will help us plan for expansion of the attribution framework to the global Internet from the prototype in GENI.

II. Description of work performed during last quarter

A. Activities and findings

We completed the scenarios during this period. 

Matt Bishop collaborated with non-GENI colleagues on a paper extending the work done earlier to include thoughts on metrics for resilience, which is relevant to the Attribution in GENI project because it studies how to measure resilience, and indeed what resilience is. Clearly, any attribution framework must be resilient in a number of ways, and this paper examines what that might mean. This paper ("Towards Metrics for Cyber Resilience", R. Ford, M. Carvalho, L. Mayron, and M. Bishop) will be presented at the 21st EICAR Annual Conference.

We completed a paper that asked what the effect of having an attribution framework such as we posit would be on future networks, a topic of interest to GENI because the consequences of the various forms of attribution are important to understand. This paper, "Attribution in the Future Internet: The Second Coming of the Sisterhood" was accepted for presentation at the European Conference on Information Warfare and Security (ECIW 2012).
